Forging the Future of Course Reserves: Implementing Controlled Digital Lending (CDL) at a University Library
Abstract
This poster outlines how library staff in Course Reserves, Scholarly Communication, and Acquisitions worked together to implement a Controlled Digital Lending program at a large, R1 institution. In the Fall of 2020, the library implemented a pilot program for controlled digital lending, scoped to course reserves. A task force was created to investigate platform options and to develop a service structure and policies. Alma Digital was selected as the CDL platform and a year and a half later, the task force was re-convened to evaluate the pilot program and create long-term, sustainable policies for controlled digital lending as a permanent part of course reserves. This poster will discuss those policies as well as how they can be adapted by other libraries who are interested in implementing CDL.
