Abstract

This study investigated the behavior of double-tee beams with recessed bearing areas or notches to evaluate end region design provisions recently introduced as an addendum to the 8th Edition of the PCI Design Handbook. Four end regions with different notch sizes and horizontal reinforcement in the bearing region were tested to evaluate shear strength. Test results showed that the notch size and horizontal reaction force had a significant influence on the shear strength of the end region.
