Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) on a company's corporate social responsibility policies. Microsoft, a UNGC signatory, and Apple, a non-signatory, are used in a comparative case study that analyzes each company's yearly reports and their approaches to corporate social responsibility. Utilizing the assessment tool developed by Dorothee Baumann-Pauly and Andreas Georg Scherer (2012), this study finds that Microsoft has a higher level of CSR embeddedness as well as more holistic understanding of what being a socially responsible corporate citizen entails.
