Abstract

This document addresses the historical and musical characteristics of the Parisian chansons, the historical and theoretical significance of the thirteen Haydn part-songs, the cultural impact of music by Stephen Foster, and the increased use of choral music in film. Selections from these musical genres were presented in a graduate recital (pg. 65) in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Master of Music degree on October, 19, 2013.
