This research examines misogyny and violence in music video imageries in the enactment of violence towards Mexican/Mexican American women. Using Chicana feminist epistemology and critical discourse analysis, I have analyzed three music videos to decipher the lyrical content and analyze the video imagery of narcocorridos for three mainstream artists. Additionally, I have relied on online commentary and petitions from individuals or organizations opposed to the representation of women in this type of spotlight, in each video. Lastly, through these efforts, I validate the cultural tune-out among listeners and the ways in which women denounce or deny the embedded male dominated messages in the genre of narcocorridos (Arrizón, 2006; Naylor, 1998).
