Abstract

The first chapter of this document is a discussion of the personal and musical relationship between composers Fanny Hensel and Felix Mendelssohn. The second chapter of this document is a discussion of Francis Poulenc's poetry selections before, during, and after World War II. The chapter draws correlations between poetry content and Catholic symbols and beliefs. The third chapter is a textual and theoretical analysis of Three Songs of Innocence by Arnold Cooke. The fourth chapter is a discussion on navigating technical and performance practice issues of Baroque solo cantatas and bel canto arias.
