This defense provides insight into the way one locality, Punta Abreojos, has developed a community economy that meets its social and economic needs while also promoting environmental stewardship. A community economy is supported by a base, which is the patrimony that provides for its social and economic needs (Gudeman 2001). This research examines aspects of Punta Abreojos' base in order to understand the myriad relationships that go into economic endeavors. Specific attention is paid to both the multi-sensory experiences of and attachments to place as well as the creation of fishing boats. Attending to the sensuous relationships that are part of Punta Abreojos' community economy places emphasis on the other than monetary factors that are important in economics.
