dc.description.abstractGeneralization holds survival value as it is important to use previous learning when encountering similar threats; however, this generalization can be maladaptive. Currently, the sequences underlying maladaptive behavior are not well understood. The purpose of thesis is to investigate the role of the PL and AC in cued sound discrimination and generalization in remote memory recall. In this study, I found that silencing each region leads to diminished discrimination and more generalization 15 days following training. These results suggest that both areas are involved in generalization and discrimination to threats during remote memory recall.
