dc.description.abstractThis case study analyzed the lived experiences of four senior level women in higher education and their journey to leadership. It is argued that women face systemic gender barriers that interfere with the acquisition of top leadership positions. Literature concerning the historical contexts of higher education along with literature on gender biases, power, identity construction, muted group, and co-cultural communication are used to analyze interviews and observations. Findings support the understanding of women navigating around certain hegemonic barriers in order to succeed.
